Awards Board Member James D. GarlsServing as an evaluator and the senior member of the Awards Board is the Marine Bombing Squadron Six-Thirteen (VMB-613) Association Secretary-Treasurer, James D. Garls.  Jim, or "JD" as he is known to his fellow squadron members, served as a radio technician with VMB-613 from 1944 through the squadron's decommissioning in November of 1945.

Following the Second World War Jim returned to civilian life, however following the communist invasion of South Korea in 1950, he was called back to active Marine Corps service.  With the Korean Armistice in 1953 he returned to civilian life once again and began work at Caterpillar, Inc. as an electrical engineer.

Jim is now retired and spends his time gardening and exploring the wonders of the Internet.  He is also an experienced ham radio operator and  is an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs.

Jim currently resides in central Illinois and was appointed to his present position as the senior member of the VMB-613 Awards Board due to his irreproachable integrity, attention-to-detail, and his ability to effectively deliver straightforward analyses.

Awards Board Member Robert J. YanacekRobert J. Yanacek serves as an evaluator and the administrator for this program.  His association with Marine Bombing Squadron Six-Thirteen is the result of his father's service with the squadron from 1943 to 1945.

Robert served twenty-three years in the Marine Corps Reserve, twenty of which were served on active duty.  His experience with computer operations dates to 1978 when he learned Base-I programming as a senior in high school.  This basic knowledge led to an early assignment in the Marine Corps as a computer operator during a period when computers were primarily terminals linked to main frame systems.  During this period he learned a programming language used by the military, known as NatV21.

With the advent of personal computers, Robert received one of the first personal computer issued by the Marine Corps in 1985 and was responsible for its utilization and integration in daily recruiting operations.  Throughout his career he continued to expand his knowledge of various operating systems and software applications as computers developed.

Since retiring from active service, Robert has worked to make this website available by expanding his computer knowledge to include HTML, CSS and a number of other web-based applications.  He is currently employed as the operations manager for Ray Communications, Inc.

Robert resides in eastern North Carolina and is a member of the American Association of Webmasters, the Association for Positive Ethical Exchange, the HTML Writers Guild, the International Association of Webmasters & Designers, the International Webmasters Association, and the Web Standards Group.
