My grandfather, Corporal Edmund Zitkus was part of VMB-613 as a photographer. My sister recently told me about this website, so I checked it out and I just wanted to thank you guys.

Keeping this history alive is very important, especially to me since I lost my grandfather when I was rather young and didn't have a chance to know this side of him... One day I will show my grandkids what my grandfather did during one of our nations toughest times.

Thanks for all the good work and keep it up!
M. Brady

This is a great site. I have enjoyed looking at it very much. Thanks for all the effort put into it.

I am working on a history of the Newport Air Field and would like to communicate with men or women stationed there (or their families) who might tell me stories of when they were there. I'd particularly like to know about interaction with the town, social life, etc.

In addition, the town is working to honor those who were stationed at Newport with a small museum and other recognition at the airfield.

Thanks to anyone who can help me in my project. Moreover, thanks for your service during the war.

I am the oldest of John A. Spaulding's 5 children. This is such a valuable and interesting project. Thank you to all involved in this endeavor.

What a wonderful website. I really appreciate the extent of information and how very well it was put together. My father, Donald C. McCune Sr. was a member of this unit as a first lieutenent in air intelligence. I am also a Marine who was proud to serve in the same tradition as my father, which is a link we will always share. If anyone would like to call my father he is at 814 445 8939 and would love to hear from anyone in the unit. He just turned 92 years old and is in good health and remembers the past in much better detail than even the present. Unfortunately, he has some trouble traveling now, but the VMB 613 reunions were always top on his list over the years as a destination. I again want to thank the author of this website and say I'm so proud of those who served in the war. Donald. C. McCune Jr A Proud Marine

Hi! Did any of you guys happen to remember this island in the Pacific Ocean, lying close to Kwajelein? Did any of you remember flying over the island on Jan.18, 1944? I am just trying to write up some history of my island during the war.

Hi guys,

I recently found out that my great uncle, Robert (Bob or Bobbie) R. Love was a tail gunner on a PBJ, but I don't know which unit he was in. Can someone help me find the unit and any other important information?

Also, he use to write to his siblings saying that "little kids in North Carolina spit on us as we were marching to camp and telling us 'go home yankees!'" I thought this was funny since my great uncle was from South Texas.

Thanks,
Chris Furlong

I was in the Sqd. for 5 months in 1944 but left as a replacement to go to MAG-61. I then joined VMB-443 and flew missions until July 1946 when I was sent home.

I regularly fly in the B-25, PANCHITO, to air shows in the eastern half of the country. I will be at Oshkosh in July 07 with Panchito.

I would be delighted to see anyone from 613 or MAG-61. George Bartlett

Great web site. It's a true tribute to all the veterans of WW-II. If you could send me info on how to create a similar site for my parents, both WW-II veterans, I would appreciate it. Good work!
