Corporal Frank R.
Lacy Jr. served as an Armorer-Turret Gunner with VMB-613 until he was
transferred to VMB-443 as a replacement. While overseas, he was
subsequently reassigned to VMB-433. While serving with VMB-433, Corporal Lacy was killed
on February 27, 1945 when his aircraft
collided in mid-air with another PBJ-1 from VMB-413 while forming up for
a bombing mission. As the crash occurred over deep water, his body
was never recovered.
