The Navy requested Lockheed B-34s from the USAAF to meet the need for land-based maritime patrol bombers.  The Navy subsequently received these aircraft, designating them as PV-1s.  PV-1s had a range of 1,660 miles and were capable of carrying a 3,000 pound bomb load.
